PRS blower push pull?????
Hi
I have been give a push pull pot 5ook which has a capacitor on it 0.022 and on the DP switch part it has a black chip. The code on the chip is : PCA EPA756 9151 SH
The center lugs on the DP swich (3 per side) on each side have had something solderred to them previously and the chip is connected to the two bottom lugs and top left lug.
Looks like it was used as a tone control and possibly
coil tapping
??
I was told its a PRS 'blower'. Does anybody know what this is or does???
Cheers

A 'blower' on Tom Anderson guitars is a switch or whatever which immediately engages the
bridge humbucker
, no matter how the five-way switch is set. I don't know if that helps any...

The capacitor is just a
high pass filter
if it's going across the two lugs on the pot. The black chip could be the "black ice" passive ovedrive chip from Mike Christian. It's available from Stew-Mac, so you can do a search and see if it looks like that. The push/pull would engage or disengage it. Otherwise it's a preamp box, or a component of a preamp anyway, and could prove useless.

Hiya,
Thanks for the replies,
It isn't the 'black ice'. The chip is rectangular about `18mm *3*4.
Hmmmmmm don't really wanna install it without knowing what it is lol

Without seeing a pic, I'm pretty much out of ideas, although EMG would probably have their name on it. How many wires come out of it? Where are the wires going? Are there any extra wires that are red or black that you could assume went to a battery? It souds like some passive circuit, and I would just install it to see what it does. That could be your only way of finding out.

Hiya,
well I tried to install it but nothing happend. The pot functioned as a tone pot fine and when pulled, no difference at all......
hmmmm
looking at the pot, the two middle lugs did at one tim have something connected to them. The previous owner says it is definitely a PRS blower and was connected as a volume pot and when pulled, didn't overdrive exactly but did give a higher output gain stage?
I have drawn a crummy picture and will try to attch it here. All colours used are fictitious lol the chip actually has metal wires (like an IC) coming out of it - no colours
really sorry about the pic quality.
cheers

Are you sure it's installed properly? Did you not get a
wiring diagram
with it?
If it isn't battery powered, it won't "boost" anything.

Hi,
It could be installed completely wrong. There is no connection for a battery as far as I can see. It is just a sealed black chip connected to the lugs on the push pull. The Black Ice works without a battery though right ? Maybe it does the same thing? Should the unit be wired as a volume not tone?
How do I attach a picture?
cheers
