Pual Gilbert's PGM

I need to know what Paul Gilbert used to fill in the tremolo cavities in his white PGM 300 and blue PGM 100 when he retrofited them with hardtails. Thanks

Re: Pual Gilbert's PGM

uhh

hmm, plastic wouldn't work....
it would take too much wood filler
water might work
metal is too heavy,

and there is not much else you could use easily and quickly.

i'd say fill it with whatever was taken out of there in the 1st place... so yeah, toneboy, you're right. wood. wood wood wood.

(preferably the solid type)

The purists will scoff, but to my ears you can really hear a huge improvement in tone if you fill the cavity with plasma. I did it on my PGM 30 and it sounds and plays way better than my friend's uncle's neighbor's PGM90.

Re: Pual Gilbert's PGM

You can tap plasma from any TV - even LCD! Just make sure the bucket you tap it into is made of stainless copper (coated). Otherwise it will activate the latent matter too early. The bucket would sound better, your guitar wouldn't.

Those guitars were crudely plugged with wood. If this is something you are considering, I woudl recommend just having a new body cut.

Yeah, its definitely crude. On the GOOMY DVD you can see the block sticking out on his 300 and the red RG with the hologram stickers (RG750?)

Re: Pual Gilbert's PGM

The worst thing, the 300 and 750 are the ones that came out the best. Dig up some old pictures of his light pink RG and it is rough.

The block is never going to expand and contract the same as the guitar, so it will never be invisible.

I would never advise such a mod, just get another body or block the trem.

Re: Pual Gilbert's PGM

I say block it. I've done that and it works fine for 99% of the things you need to do with a guitar. It also leaves the option for you to get back into playing with a trem if you want to.

The sustain won't be a good as with a hard tail but a better than in full floating and I would argue, maybe even better than the whole Gilbert style plug.

Re: Pual Gilbert's PGM

The reason i asked what he used was becuase i like the way it looks. I know its not perfect looking but to me it adds caracter. Kinda wish they came out with a replica of the white pgm 301, just like the Eddie Van Halen frankenstien with all the aging and modification he did. but ima build me my own replica of it useing a rg1570 body i have and a prestige maple neck with maple fingerboard. its cool cuz i ended up useing the edge pro brigde on my xiphos.
