Push-pull coil tap or mini switches?
For my second
custom guitar
I've decided to go with two humbuckers w/ a single coil in the middle, and coil split the humbuckers. I know there's two ways of going about this: the push-pull pots/knobs, and
mini switches
. I think I am going to go with mini switches because I find it a little annoying to do the push-pull thing, because i always accidentally twirl the volume or tone knob or somethin'. What do you guys think? Here's the body, precarve:

mini switches suck - there is no way in the world they ever look good...
what about a push/push pot -

Re: Push-pull coil tap or mini switches?
mini switches look perfectly fine...tons of Carvins have em and stuff. And if you read my post at all you'll notice I said i specifically will likely avoid push-pull.

Re: Push-pull coil tap or mini switches?
yep, and if youd read my post you would see that I read your post... and recommended push/push pots
if you like mini switches then buy them, I was merely offering an alternative to push/pull without adding any other switches...

Why can't you just hard wire it into a 5 way like Ibanez or anyone else does?
If you're going for a
coil tap
on just one PUP at a time, I would say a single Pull pot on the tone knob would be more out of the way and not so likely to be a PITA to use.

How about adding an extra pot that turns the
coil split
by turning the knob? Kind of like what PRS has as the pickup selector on some of their axes.

Re: Push-pull coil tap or mini switches?
I agree with the mini switches route, and they don't look bad! Definately a little easier to use in a live situation, especially if you need to make a quick change while your playing. It's always easier to flick a switch while you play then to pull up on a knob.

Re: Push-pull coil tap or mini switches?
Lol. Well it's a well known thing that push-
pull coil tap
is the way to go for extra tones and whatnot. I'll look into the knob turn thing as well.

I prefer the cleaner look of a push/pull pot...

Re: Push-pull coil tap or mini switches?
I like the miniswitch fot tapcoil... looks cool:
but in others guitars also I have push/pull on tone pot. and its the best way to not make holes in the body.
you choose.

Re: Push-pull coil tap or mini switches?
I don't see the point in drilling an other hole in a nice piece of wood if you don't have to. I'd go with the push pulls. I've always found them easy to access while playing to change the tone of your guitar.
