Putting on a new neck - Anyone had any experience

I have an old project guitar and I finally have enough time to work on it. I have a new neck and know that the think cant just be drilled and bolted on. For anyone experperienced, what are the considerations I need to keep in mind when doing this.

Putting on a new neck

Your biggest concern will be string allignment.
Use a C-clamp to hold the neck in place (of course you will want to pretect the body and frets from damage)
Loosely sting both E strings.
Check the distance to the edge of the neck. They should be the same.
Use a #2 pencil (should fit through the screw holes) to mark the back of the neck.
Drill your holes, but only go about a 1/4" to 1/2" deep. Put a piece of tape around your drill bit.

The other thing will be neck angle, but that part is easy.
