Question about a Crate amp...
Hi Folks,
I've got a little 10W Crate practicing amp with a 10" driver that I got as my first amp back in '90. I really don't want to get rid of it for sentimental reasons (my parents gave it to me), and I was thinking about getting it modded....
The amp has an "SCG Channel" with 3 knobs ("Gain", "Level" and "Shape") (I'm assuming that's the distortion channel), and then aside from that there's a button that either turns the channel on or off, and it also has an input for a footswitch to do the the same. Next to that is the eq channel (which works both clean and dirty channels), a push button switch for a bright reverb and the reverb knob, after that it's the line out and a headphone jack. The input jack is next to the scg channel.
What I though about was to buy a Boss DS-1, and having someone outfit the guts of the ds-1 to work as the scg channel and have each one of the three knobs function as those in the Boss DS-1. I would like it to work in such a way that even if I were to operate the amp at a low volume, I could have distortion at the flick of a switch. Currently, you have to turn the master volume to the max in order to get distortion and it's very hard to control it without having to turn down the volume on the guitar, it's kind of an annoying feature because it's either too loud or not loud enough.
I know someone is going to say "why don't you just buy the ds-1 and plug it into the amp? I would just like to have something unusual and not having to lug cables if I were to lend it to someone or if I were to plug it into the bathroom or something should I ever decide to record something with it.
Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions would be welcomed
Thanks!
Jimmy
