Question about springs...

Does anyone here who uses 10 guage with standard tuning have 4 springs? Should I really need it?

Is there more tension if the springs are like this - | | | than like this - /|\ ?

Thanks.

No matter what I do, I can't seem to get it parallel. It's always slightly raised. Any suggestions?

Did you tighten them?? (dumb question...I know If they are tight, then you'll probably have to add a spring.

Re: Question about springs...

... as in screwing the spring claw farther into the wood (which you probably have already done). If you have the screws all the way in and still can't get the trem level, you need to add a spring.

Re: Question about springs...

That's what I need to hear, thanks.

Is it normal to actually need one though? considering I'm only using 10's in standard tuning.

Re: Question about springs...

I have 3 low pro equipped guitars, all standard tuning, all with 10s, all with 3 springs parallel.
I believe there are some guitars that can't quite get the tension needed with 3 parallel springs, but no, it isn't normal.
