well,
my basic rule is: if the baseplate' wings are wide and thin, then it's crap.

basically, other than original Floyd Rose, Floyd Rose by Schaller, Floyd Rose by Kahler, Edge, Lo-Pro Edge, Edge Pro, Edge Pro II and ZR, all the others are crap.

of course there are Wilkinsons and like, but they're not FR-kind of trems.

well the steinbergers dont own the whole lot performance wise but theya re great trem systems. They simple cant do things a true double locking bridge can do without breaking strings. the clamps are the only way to go

Bad rule of thumb. They have to be judged individually. Basically if you have quality construction and design where good material was used in manufature, you've got a good trem. Quality is quality, but will not forgive a poor design.

i absoultely loathe () the lo-trs7 on my rg7420, so much in fact that not long after i had the guitar i took the bar out and never used it again.

on the other hand the lo-pro edge in my jem is awesome (except for the posts).

my individual judgement.

oh no, they don't at all.
check them out...

Original Floyd Rose

TRS II

look at the 'wings': OFR's are narrower, and TRS's are wider.
then the baseplate width: OFR is as twice than the TRS's.
not to mention the knives and the arm-insert barrel... that's all another world.

but since Viva asked HOW to visually identify a good or a bad trem, then this rule could be taken as good.
TRS and OFR do NOT look the same at all, and we know what's the difference in quality between the two, and since TRS looks the same as the plethora of Korean/Indonesian Floyd Patented crap (thin baseplate, wide wings etc), then you can identify that particular looking-trem as crap.

My Japanese/Korean GOTOH is a "snap" better than an Original Floyd Rose.
Brass-block with lockplate for the string attachment (Way B4 the LoPro), and smoothed palmrests on the lower locks.
Nice armholder...
Also better sustain e.t.c

You´d better feel it, take it out for an inspection, before buying.

Too much crap out there since the 80´s "we all got floyds" .

it should fit with no mods needed, as the TRS is way bigger than the FR.
