questions Id like answers to

I just got my rg3120 this weekend and changed the string to 10's. When doing this, I noticed the springs were screwed all the way into the body for 9s, so I had to add one spring just to let them out a little and another to change to 10's. So now there are 5 springs in the trem cavity, which means I had to take off the spring lock bar. I was wondering if not having that in has an effect on tuning stability.

I also noticed that both knife edges on my lo pro edge where straight, I thought that the knife edge on the trem arm side (high e) was supposed to be curved. Am I just crazy or is this trem messed up.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

EDIT: also, wheres the best place I could get a lo pro edge intonation tool. would my local guitar store have one?

I'd start with fresh springs, but the lack of the lock should have no effect.

There is definately one straight knife too many

thanks. Ill probably track down some smaller springs to replace the ones I have now, but until then I'll deal with 5. I dont mind the tension or stiff tremolo.

as far as the 2 straigt knife edges. Were there a few models that had 2, or would that knife edge have been replaced? What effect will having 2 straight knife edges have? should this be something I look into changing as soon as possible?

EDIT: the high e knife edge is round. It just looked straight because it's straight going up to the posts, but it curves once it gets there. but just to be on the safe side, could someone show me a picture of the high e knife edge.

the purpose of the curved edge is to center the trem...if both are straight, the trem could slide down and up almost freely.....you don't want that!

I've got 47mm springs.

The knives aren't even the same size, and only go in one way. The curved knife is much wider than the straight, and then the part that inserts into the trem body is much shorter than the part that's in the "wings". If you look at where the curved side should be [arm holder side on a right hand trem] you should see a gap in the channel.

springs: If I just get shorter springs, Ill just drop by a local tech shop (ultimate guitar works in winnipeg) or an instrument retailer. They shouldn't be hard to find, and its more convienant. Unless you have those springs with the round "hooks" on both sides. Those are what I would like. Then I can use 4 or 5 springs and still have the lock bar on.

knife edge: forgive my ignorance. Im not sure what the terminology your using means. But this is what I noticed on mine. The distance between the sharp edge of the knife to opposite side is shorter on the straight side then the curved one. I cant see the curved portion of the other knife edge (when the bridge is still on the body, I haven't taken the bridge off yet) but it appears to be closer to the post, as if the indent on the post was deeper. My trem also doesnt slide, so thats a plus .

thanks for your help rich and caprile.

also, how easy is it to find an edge adjust or other lo pro edge intonation key. I could order it from stewmac, but they charge for a booklet, 3 different keys and an assortment of unneeded stuff. So I want to know if they're easy things to find in guitar stores.

In other words, you can put a curved knife in a straight knife's channel. So a straight knife is too small for the curved channel, and, it's unidirectional, it's only meant for one spot to go in a certain way.

Last time I tried to order Stew Mac was no longer stocking the Edge adjusts.

Well that just blows.

I'll have to treat the ones I have like the Hope Diamond now.

Try evil-Bay, sometimes you see them for sale, but expect the price to go UP UP UP now that Stewmac doesn't have them.
