Paint thinner wont really work well. I would sand the head stock and repaint. Look on www.projectguitar.com there are tutorials about decals

Re: removing ibanez logo on my ibanez gio

You might be able to remove the logo as carefully as possible, even if you use very fine sandpaper. And then buff out the scratches and keep the original paint. Then place the vinyl decal over that and don't even clear coat it. That's if the gio logo is a surface decal (like my rgs at least) and not under the paint.

If it's under the clear, then I suppose you'd have to sand through the clear and deal with a bit more hassle. You'll also have to clear coat the entire headstock and get it thick enough so that you can sand out the "imprint" left from the shape of the new decal.

Re: removing ibanez logo on my ibanez gio

try using a fine razor blade

the kind u use on those old school razors where both wides are razor sharp and its a thin blade

then shave it manualy wihtout cutting urself, i find masking one side works great

i did this on my carvin, becasue most of those labels, arent stickers or paint per say they are paint that is silkscreened like 3 times over the finish, thats why u can feel it over the clearcoat of whatever finish is on the guitar

also them youll have some reminance, use mineral oil and the pumich rotten stone, its the white powder.....dont go to ace, go to a wood working shop, use it with an old soft non lint cloth and fill the cloth up like a ball with rotten stone the finest u can find and dip it into mineral oil and dap that into a plate with rotten stone, then buff out the rest of the silkscreen, when done make the buff run into the entire headstock, then get a simple aluminium or glass polish, and use a microfiber to polish it to a buff!

i did this on my carvin, worked well

if you scrape with a razor blade, you can damage the wood and create a very uneven surface. sanding is definetly a better and more professional approach.

not too sure about the professional aproach you seek .....but if u ask anyone whos done this before, theyll use a blade very carefully, so not to damage the rest of the guitar

granted if u arent careful youll get into the finish and the wood, but then again, u can buff out silkscreen with sandpaper while damaging the rest of the paint

try again chimpokoman

scratching it with a razor blade will only make it look ugly IMO.

Re: removing ibanez logo on my ibanez gio

ive done this before

if u are carefull u dont scratch it, u carfeully slide the blade under the silksvreen painted logo

like ur shaving the material off, i SAY this does take carefulness and steady hands and patience, the rest can buff out with a automotive buffer or even wed buff rotten stone

but dont diss it it worked wonders on the carvin 7 string i had
