Repairing a nasty paint chip?

Hey guys, i was wondering if theres any "easy" way to "fix" a nasty chip that shows wood... im not trying to hide anything, its just that a whole refinish is not an option, and id like to keep it as clean as possible.

Im using a pic from Rich as an example (hope its ok), its a very similar hit...

Ive heard of superglue used for clearcoat repairs (dont know how that works either) but this is deeper...

i had a evil chip on my patrick eggle , i matched the colour best i could with a felt pen , well a few felt pens and i then took it to a furniture maker that uses the 2 part laquer stuff , polymer stuff i think , he filled it for me and made it 99% right and left me to smooth it flush , didnt charge me either he said it was cool to work on something different. i got him a bottle of wine as it was cool for him to do it , i know you can buy the poylmer stuff. best i can help :-)
