replace locking nut with roller nut?

Does anyone know if it is possible to replace a locking nut with a roller nut? I would use the roller nut in conjunction with steinberger locking tuners wich would give me better tuning stability. I use this set-up on an s470 that I modified with a replacement moses neck but can't figure out how to make it work on a guitar with a locking nut. I tried to just put the tuners on and unlock the nut but there is too much friction from the metal nut. Anyone ever tried this?

a graphite nut will do a better job, easier installation and maintenance and it's way cheaper.
