Replacement trem for an old Jem777sk?

I'm attempting to restore a severely abused Jem777sk, one with the old standard edge tremolo.

The original tremolo is literally rotting; the saddles have a good deal of the chrome flaking off, corrosion, etc. as does the tailpiece where one's palm typically hits it. It's ugly. And probably not safe to touch.

I've seen replacement edge's for $250.00 or so. I can't pay anything like that.

Can anyone recommend a decent (cheaper) drop-in replacement? I'm not all that picky about tremolos, to be honest.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Stick with the edge. It's the best trem period!!! I would check with Rich at Ibanez Rules. (banner at top of page)

If you cant afford the new edge prices I think there is one on evilbay at the moment. But definatly stick with the edge...best trem ever in my opinion

Does a Floyd fit into an Edge routed or Lo-Pro routed body?

If it does a Floyd might be the way forward. They are still stable, but without the huge price tag.

I am not sure whether it fits though. It has probably been discussed here before!

no Floyds, no TRSs, just get a used Edge on ebay. i can buy your old rotting one if you need some $$, just tell me.

but do NOT put anything which is not an Edge. better to keep the old one rather than get something which is not an Edge: you can't do that on an SK.

i like'em, but we're talking about putting a non-Edge trem on an SK: you can't do that, it's a sacrilege.
an used Edge is NOT more expensive than a used Floyd or whatever.

I quite like them and have 2 guitars with Schaller FRII but in an ideal world I would prefer to have EDGE trems.
Keep in mind that the Schaller made FR's baseplate is made of softer metal which makes them sound very mellow.
A bit like a Les Paul whereas the FR and EDGE have this britle strat sound to them.
Maybe see if you can clean your existing EDGE somehow?
Soak it in degreaser and use sand paper to file the pitting.

ilia

p.s. Forgot to say that the Schaller trem is by far the smallest FR available on the market and it will look very small in the route.
It will fit as will any other FR trem but it'll look too small.
