Replacing my Lo TRS II with an Edge trem - do I have to repl

I'm picking up an Edge trem for my newly acquired JS-100 - I've taken the measurements and I'm quite sure it will fit, but if it doesn't, I'm prepared to do the minimal routing required to get it working smoothly... The Edge that I'm buying does not come with posts, however. Will the Edge fit on the TRS II posts? Or will I have to search out some Edge posts as well? I'm trying to minimize the total expense for this project, so despite the fact that the TRS II posts are non-locking and obviously "inferior" to Edge posts, if I can make them work, I'd rather keep them...

thanks

rule #1. Always replace the posts It will fit, but for $20 posts, why ruin two knife edges on crummy posts. Good luck... glen

Glen... are you saying that because the posts on the TRS-II wears out much quicker, it's part of the reason why TRS trems lose their knife edges so much quicker than Edge trems?

I've seen the "paint" come off it, immediately when I put the trem on when I replaced the posts on my RG.

I don't see the logic in putting a new tremolo (or like new) on old posts. Never have understood this, never will. The new posts are like new tires/shocks on a car... for alot less $$$. Give you a fresh, new ride.

Simple math... the studs cost $20 (widely available) and the Edge/LoPro base plate costs $70-75 on special backorder.

The paint is not such a worry, but can indicate signs of wear/tear or improper installation (scraping when istalling). I don't have near as much TRS experience as the EDGE and hate to comment on metallurgy but the concensus is the posts and TRS baseplate are a step down, for whatever the reason (materials and/or manufacture).

Finally, the TRS posts don't have the set-screw to lock them, so you're going to get wear/tear quicker, due to subtle rocking of the posts in the body anchors if nothing else. Both to the posts and the tremolo knife edges. Also subtle tuning instability... glen

Okay, good point - I'll drop the additional pitance and enjoy new posts as well

I have an '87 550 and the posts don't have set screws like on my '97 7620, were the posts with the set screws not being made then or did someone replace them before I got the guitar? Also should I replace them now?

It has a hole in the middle of each post so maybe the previous owner just took the screws out but I will get new posts. Thanks for the help.
