Replacing Roadstar neck with Fender?
I have a friend at work who would like to buy a replacement neck for his Ibanez. Was wondering if a standard Strat replacement neck would work. It'll take him a while to get the serial number, but the guitar is an
Ibanez Roadstar
(II?), given to him lightly used in 1986. Maroon with black pickguard, SSH pickup config,
rosewood fretboard
, and non-locking trem. The neck has a 4-screw plate, and looks like it should fit a Fender neck, but he just wanted to be sure before purchasing one off of e8ay.
For a pic of the guitar (not great) check out:

A standard 22-fret Fender-type replacement neck should work fine

Awesome- good to hear! Before I go ahead and advise him of this, can you just share how you know this? I'd hate to offer an opinion and discover that it doesn't work out.. you know.
A 2nd opinion would be welcome, too... and seriously, no offense at ALL to you vaijem777- I have respected all your other thoughts on other posts; it's just I want to be super sure on this before I give this guy a green-light.

I would have to agree with vaijem777.
I believe the Roadstar has the same neck pocket as a Strat.

But will the screw holes line up and all... hm. I know it's a long shot to find anyone that's performed this 'surgery'.
Thanks to the both of you though for your input!

Typically, necks have the same spacing, even on Ibanez's 6 and 7 string pockets of the
standard neck joint
(non AANJ).
Another thing is some necks come with no holes in them so that you can make your own.

Right- thanks Eddie.
I know that an unused replacement will most likely not have holes, and that would make life easier
But he's most likely going to try to get a (relatively) inexpensive used Strat neck off of e8ay. He really doesn't want to put a lot of $ or effort into this upgrade (e.g. dowels & glue for improperly lined up holes), since it is for a backup Roadstar after all

Sorry...forgot about this thread!
I had to have some work done on the neck of my Roadstar II (RS1300NT) and had a spare
Warmoth Strat
neck laying around. So...out of curiosity I popped it on and it worked perfeclty. Granted, the Warmoth hadn't been used yet and did not have any holes drilled to attach it to the body, so I did that myself. The neck pocket was the same as the American Standard
Strat body
that the neck eventually went on.
