I have an old guitar with a standard black
Schaller Floyd Rose from 1992. It had a lot of bigger problems than the trem, so I have had to refret it, get shims for the locknut etc to get it restored in its old glory... However, now that those things are all fixed, I noticed that the string height was pretty uneven. So I took off the saddles and inspected them, and some of them seem to be really worn down. I've now swapped some of them out, so the height make a bit more sense, but I'll be replacing them.
I was a bit shocked at the wear though... My RG570 with LoPro Edge from 1995 has had a lot of playing aswell, but I can't see any signs of wear at all. In fact, I never thought about it.
So my question is: should I go from the Graphtech or original Schaller ones? Price doesn't matter to me. Tone does though. Currently the guitar has a rather dark tone, a rather 'mushy' attack, it doesn't have much 'sparkle'. I'd like to improve that. And ofcourse it'd also be nice if the saddles were wear-resistant.
Another thing I like about the Graphtech saddles is that they are shaped much like the LoPro Edge saddles, with a slanted front. I've always found them comfortable to play when I have my palm on the bridge.
So please chime in if you have experience with these graphtech saddles, and if you can tell me how they affect tone, playability, robustness etc.
