Restoring a badly restored fingerboard!

Hi to all!
I've just received a '86 roadstar rg440..
The guitar and the neck are in unbelievably perfect condition, but the fingerboard was cleaned with steel wool leaving some signs and then was heavily oiled.
Here's a pic:

Now i want to clean again the fingerboard and then oil it again!
I think to clean again the fratboard with this product:

And then oil it again with Fret Doctor..
It is the right procedure or i have to clean the fingerboard only with 0000 steel wool or maybe it's better to not oil it again?
Thanks!
P.S. Look what a beauty!

I'd say, use an old toothbrush to try and get rid of the stuff in the grain. If it doesn't come off dry, mix some soap and water in a cup or something and dip the toothbrush so it gets wet. Get the excess soap and water off the toothbrush and try working it on the grain one fret at a time following it with a dry cloth, so the water doesn't stay on the fretboard.

I don't see why not. Just keep in mind that the previous person used wool and left the fretboard with streak marks. If you decide to do it again, keep the wool in the direction of the grain, so you don't end up with the lines on the frets like the ones in your last pic. Post the results, I'm itching to see what it looks like when it's done.
