restring floyd rose question

im about to restring my floyd rose (rg2570) and im just wondering if its alrite to take off all the strings so i can clean the fretboard and polish some the frets and im just wondering would taking all the strings all mean i have to adjust the truss rod again? (im scared of the truss rod )
i heard from some people the neck wont move if they are off under a small amount of time (1hour)

btw this is not my first time restring a floyd rose, usually i take one string at a time.

Re: restring floyd rose question

Take all of the strings off, don't worry about it.

I had a guitar that I took all of the strings off, and it sat for about 10 years before I restrung it, and nothing was wrong. It plays like a beast.

And don't be afraid of the truss rod.

I suggest you grab a guitar, and crank on that sucker both ways to see what happens.

I just took a guitar with a pretty tough truss rod, and about killed myself to get it to move, and it's fine. I cranked that sucker till I thought it was gonna bust. Nothing beats experience (eventhough I am scared to death to even touch one of my "collector" guitars).

Seriously, I have guitars that I won't even so much as touch, but then again I have guitars that I will tweak the living **** out of.

Re: restring floyd rose question

If you are going to pull all the strings off at once, take a 2 liter soda cap, put it in a sock, and sit the sock/cap under the recessed portion of the trem. This will keep the tremolo somewhat level while you work on the rest of the guitar and most likely speed up the restinging/tuning process because you wont be compensating for a trem thats way out of position due to the spring tension vs. no strings. It will also keep the pressure on the knives where it should be and not bent all wierd at an angle.

Props to Rich on the bottle cap idea, I think it was his site I read this on a few years back.

Dont worry about the neck it will be fine for the duration of you cleaning up the guitar.
