Re: RG1520 Mod Ideas

nah its too samesey

im gunna stick with my original idea of gold hardware and the some nice LEDs.

That black ice thing?
does it just like control the output of the pickups or something?
but it does sound like a bit of a waste and 30 bucks

Re: RG1520 Mod Ideas

I'm surprised nobody has pointed out the guitar in the pic isn't a 1520. Looks like a 1570.

I realise I'm probably in the minority here, but as regards modding I'd just change the pups and leave everything else as is. I've always loved the minimalistic appearance of these guitars.

Re: RG1520 Mod Ideas

0.o Well. In that case, it is quite possible I have a 1570.

I do agree with Awakened Sleeper, I might go all chrome hardware sans the chrome pickguard, I like the look of no pickguard. (And coming from a Fender player, no pickguard is a welcome change) I was thinking of tone, electronic mods.

Stuff that are cool and maybe unusual, like a Sustainer pickup, tone mod, or piezo. Midi is unfortunately out of my price range, and sounds sorta too synthetic (LOL PIEZO)

Concerning the neck, can I actually remove the fretboard, or am I asking for too much work and its easier to throw on a whole new neck altogether? I do love the feel of the neck I got, and my one complaint is the dots.

this is what i did:
http://www.jemsite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=66011
i would (depending on the pups) probably do this:
http://emginc.com/displayproducts.as...2&catalogid=69
or one of the other things emg has, for accessories.
but i would strongly suggest looking at some active emg pickups speciffically
"Active 80's" (seriously!).
especially if you add an after burner
and tell me if you do. I will setup a tut on how to add a third knob inbetween the two existing ones.
uhh... your guitar guy? im guessing ur guitar tech haw?
concerning your fret board, i dont think it could be easily done, i would just buy a existing ibanez neck that matches urs (wizard cept different style u kno?)
and you might consider scalloping it if you do get a new neck, because that way you can get experience with it, and decide if you want to do it on the new neck.
http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/scal1.htm
ive posted that link many times. dunno if its actually helped anyone but i like to think so

Re: RG1520 Mod Ideas

if you get a pickgaurd make it special not mirror or metalish, since it would make it look like a 350, also If you get leds in the fretboard or something I think red is wayyyyyy too overused with black so I say go for maybe a purple, darker purple that is, also I hate gold hardware but it might look good on that guitar Also I think a sustainer would be cool and not as much work as a piezo or midi system. Also another thing that might look cool, on your black trem maybe change all the saddles to chrome or something

you could drill out the dots and put leds is that wat ur saying?
that is cool but, you will have a hollow neck, and the wiring would be a true pain. ill do it! LOL jk, i dont like doing things 4 people over enet.

Re: RG1520 Mod Ideas

I really don't like EMGs, HOWEVER! Could you explain what exactly the Afterburner does? It seems very cool (From what I understand)

The Afterburner ups the gain from the guitar, doesn't distort it, but just ups the gain? So you could have a clean high gain channel?

Could I do both Afterburner and schotkkie/Black Ice?

Ok, from what i have seen the afterburner doesnt distort it that much, but thats with emgs... so i couldnt tell you for sure.

in technicallity you could have a clean high gain channel, but i think that relie in ur amp and wat pickups you will use
i wouldnt use an after burner withanything else (no black ice ect)
that would be complete usless overkill

Re: RG1520 Mod Ideas

add another knob (6 or 12 way rotary), like between your 2 existing knobs and make it a varitone and have your tone knob do the tweaking.

Re: RG1520 Mod Ideas

To be honest, I might actually buy a Vine Of Life Wizard II, if I can find one, and send it over to them. I love what they've done with the vine of life there, a red one would be own.

Would it be a good idea to wire a EMG Afterburner and a Black Ice in the same guitar?

From what I understand, the EMG just does gain, and Black Ice distortion. Yeah, I've got a POD and it could do it for me, but I like having the controls right at my fingertips, and portable. I do alot of gigs using others equipment, and just my guitars (Nothing major, I wish lol) as well as jamming.

So yeah, if I could edge on a little distortion, then say a solo up the gain with the Afterburner, that would be awesome. This is assuming this is what the Afterburner does, and all three guitar shops in the area have never dealt with the Afterburner, and don't know.

First thing that came to my mind as well.

I did that with a green sparkle, and it made a pretty big difference.
