RG1570 tuning problem

I have my friends 1570 and he had dead strings on it so I went to restring it. I have all the strings on AND have gotten it to pitch all nice and well but if I dive bomb and come back up, it's a half step flat. if I pull the bar up it's back on. So I tightened the springs. Then it was ok but now if I pull up it stays a halfstep sharp so I have to dive to fix it... I tried to release some tension from the springs a little and NOW going down leaves it a quarter flat and pullin' up leaves it a quarter sharp. I'm pretty sure it's just 'cause the bridge isn't returning to it's correct position fully.. Anyone know what I gotta do to fix this?

Re: RG1570 tuning problem

Sounds like something is amiss with the setup. Check out Rich's site (Ibanez Rules) for a great tutorial on setting up these guitars. I am wondering if you actually have one of the knife edges completely out of its slot on the stud. Proper setup involes a balance between the strings pulling one way, and the springs(in the back) pulling the other way. Once you do get it setup right, I recommend changing strings one at a time so the bridge never goes that far out of whack. If you stay with the same gauge strings and tuning, the spring claw in the back should rarely need any attention.

Re: RG1570 tuning problem

well you also gottaq remember it takes time for the strings to stretch and the tension with the springs to equalize. when i put on new strings i dont lock it or mess with the trem for 2 days. thats another thing people over-look a lot
