RG1570L Trem question....

First let me start by stating the obvious. I know an Edge III BLOWS compared to the Edge/Lo Pro,Edge Pro.....let me also say I HATE OFR's!!!! I just think they are dated, antique looking relics and look about as good in an RG as hubcaps on a Mustang Cobra.

For ME it's either a REAL Ibanez Trem or it'll just stay an empty cavity. I'll gladly play my Les while searching for the right trem. A few more things to get out of the way before I ask my true question. I am LEFT HANDED.....and NO I won't try to just learn how to play right handed, I wish I would have done that when I FIRST started playing but it's been 15 years so it's been far to long. I used to have an old RG550L in Desert Sun Yellow and it was great but one day I woke up and ended up selling it....I have regretted that move ever since.

I currently have an RG470 and well, it's "ok" but with the crappy Lo-Trs II it kinda ruins what the guitar could be. So, I have been searching the bay forever and TODAY I found an RG1570L body for sale as a "buy it now" so I took it! Last night I got out bid by $2.50 on a left handed prestige neck so......I wasn't taking the chance this time!

Question is, I have a NEW right handed Edge III that was going to go into the 470 after some routing to replace the cruddy TRS, but this 1570 changes everything. While I am searching for an Edge Pro to put in this 1570 will the Edge III work? Relax, I just need it to be a quick fix....nothing permanent. If I have to rout anything then I won't do it, this body it too nice to spoil. As long as the Edge III is a drop in then will it work even thought the body is a lefty and the bridge is a righty?

I DO NOT use whammy bars so I really don't care about that (SRV used a left handed trem/bar on his Strat) anyhow, I simply like the "feel" of an Edge.....I wish Ibanez made an MTM left handed!

So, will my spare right handed Edge III work in my RG1570L's left handed Edge Pro rout? It seems to me that if an Edge Pro replaces an Edge III and the underside of both trems are made ambidextrous then it "appears" that it would work. I might have to remove the allen bolt for the whammy bar but I don't use them anyhow.

I have already scoured this forum and read the post where "Nuno" posted all those pics....while it was somewhat helpful it didn't really answer my question. Again, I know the Edge III sucks.......we ALL know that, it would be temporary. Will it blend?

Re: RG1570L Trem question....

61 people have viewed this and nobody is going to have a crack at it? Surely someone can answer this. I think what we need is a HUGE thread that lists 100% as to what fits what FOR SURE and what DOES NOT fit FOR SURE, and of course the ever mind boggling what fits for some but not all (Example: "some people have been able to fit the Edge in an Edge III route without mods but some people haven't").

Since I just got this RG1570L body I now have some Ibanez projects to complete. The 1570 is going to get a new left handed Edge Pro from Rich, I'm probably going to end up using my 470's neck for a little while (at least till I can find something nicer for it), some fresh Cosmo tuners, new Cosmo locking nut, all new pots/switch, fresh Cosmo knobs, Schaller Strap locks in Nickel, some green Dimarzio Evo's for the Bridge & Neck, one of those "Dragonfire Hotrails" in black, and all the other hardware will be new as well. Then I'll have to track down a J Custom case for it.

The 470 is going to get sanded down to expose it in all it's Basswood glory, then sanded smooth then stained as dark as possible. Then I'll seal it with something nice. I'm planning on taking a dremel to the cavities and remove all the rough spots and then shield them. I'm going to rout it out for some active Seymours (and an active EMG single coil), reinstall the original neck once I get a replacement for the 1570, I'm also going to fill in the trem cavity and make it a hardtail string through. I'll do a few other odd's & ends then fit it with brand new hardware and a nice new hardshell and call it a day.

The only other Ibanez's I'll be looking for until I call it quits will be a 550L, 570L and finally building a left handed JEM777VBK probably from a modified 550L. Oh, and IF Ibanez EVER makes an RG321MH in left handed form (which they should as it it would cost them LESS than the 370DXL they currently build) then I'll buy one of them as well. After that I'll move onto collecting basses.
