Rg470 Floyd Rose Pro

I just recently got a great deal on a awesome looking Rg470 body in candy apple red,
http://www.ibanez.com/parts/2004_PAR...ndex_spec.html

That model, and I am in the process of fitting it with all the salvageable parts I had on an RG that was somehow destroyed while I was in basic training. That is, everything but the neck and body. I have a few questions about installing this bridge.

Its a gold Floyd Rose Pro that I had installed on the old RG for all of about a month. Firstly the body came with the tremolo posts and anchors from what that Ibanez parts page says was an EdgePro. While the posts it came with were pretty trashed, my FRP posts are basically brand new, and fit right into the old anchors exactly. My question is, would there be any advantage to pulling the old anchors and installing the Floyd anchors? I had to do it when I installed it on my old RG but these anchors seem to fit the posts just as well as the originals.

Secondly when I sit the Floyd into the trem cavity the bottom of the bridge hits the cavity plate on the back and doesn't let the bridge sit low enough in the cavity.

Sorry about the ****ty quality but you can see the bridge hovering about 4-5 millimeters too high. I had this problem with the last guitar I had it installed in and I just covered the cavity with tissue and paper instead but it would be nice to be able to use the cover. I know I will definitely have to deepen the cavity to allow the Pro to fit but that wont be a problem.

The third question I have does not involve the bridge but rather the neck.

I tried to fit the old RG270DX Korean made broken neck into the pocket of this body for the hell of it but it was too wide to fit. Is this a difference in manufacturing between countries as this body was made in Japan, and the neck in Korea? I was going to get a Japanese neck for it anyway but I figured I might ask in case there is some other reason the neck wont fit.

Re: Rg470 Floyd Rose Pro

Hey there!!!

I had exactly the same problems when I fitted my RG-470 with an OFR Pro.

First of all, I reckoned that since the OFR Pro came with the original studs, they should be designed to work best with the OFR Pro bridge. They are direct replacement, so, I took the old ones out (Lo-TRS) and placed the OFR studs.

Secondly, the trem cavity was not deep enough!!!
Third, the trem almost touched the routing on this area:

(You can notice that the fine tuners aren't aligned with the saddle "centre line", that's why it barely is any clearence in the area shown in the picture!)

So, I had to route that edge and, since I was into it, I also routed the cavity a bit deeper.

This will raise another problem, though!
The tremolo block of the OFR Pro is higher than the Lo-TRS, so you'll have two options:
1. leave the tremolo spring cover off;
2. route cavities into the tremolo cover.

Oh, BTW... are you sure it is MIJ? I think the RG-470s are made in Korea!

Re: Rg470 Floyd Rose Pro

Thanks for the info, I'll probably do that with the back plate a the studs.

About the MIJ, apparently RG470s were only made in Korea for a few years in the 90s, and this specific body was made in 2004. I am only assuming that however since the only mention I can find of a candy apple red 470 was one made in 04.
