RG570 action
ok i know most of you are going to shake your heads and laugh quietly to yourselfs about this, but im quite serious i assure you
I have an RG570, that for my band I keep tuned to D. the action is soooo amazingly buttery soft I could cry. the DOWNSIDE is its TOO soft. I find myself writing alot of agressive palm mutes into our music and the strings just flop all over the place. I play with elixir 10s. does anyone know what I can do to stiffen the action just a smidge? I thought about getting a hip shot
trem setter
. any one have any ideas?
thx
Ken

If they only made 10.5's
A tremsetter will make the trem action stiffer because it won;'t allow the trem to pull forward as easy when bending, but if the strings are too floppy I'm not sure how much it'll help. Aside from that it all comes down to string gauge and tuning so you might want to up a few of the strings .01 which would definately help.

well theres one vote for heavier strings. I like my 10's. the more I think about it though the more i think its probably wise just to block the trem :\

Maybe I don't understand, when is it too floppy?
Moving up to 4 or 5 springs will make the trem more resistant like putting in a tremsetter. It takes more force to open a more closed spring.

I don't know if Elixer makes them, but if your problem is with the
lower strings
you might want to step up to a 10-52 gauge.. The high strings will still be 'soft', while you'll have some meat on the bass for riffs..
I never liked regular 9's because the
wound strings
felt weak, so I did the 9-46 route..
I don't know, it might work for you..

why didnt I think of that before?
anyone think adding the two extra springs would or could help keep the trem from moving during playing? thus keep the trem functional while not having it so damn touchy?

10-52 is the way to go. the GHS TNT sets use that gauge. I used them for a while. plenty of tension for lower tunings, lots of chunk

string gauge wont really help if you want to leave your aciton like that. I put a
hipshot tremsetter
in my old rg custom, and even though it doesnt flutter as well *I can still "fake" flutter* as well as the added tuning stability, and tension, makes it my
alternate tuning
guitar. If you crank the tremsetter all the way up though and still want to use the trem, be prepared to maybe break some whammy bars, and file some knife edges, cause it has ALOT of tension when tightened all the way up

I used to use GHS TNT sets (10-52) for a while too. Very nice for heavy riffing. Now I use Custom Lights (9-46)
