Routing an angle-jack - I'm going to type a messege about my

Hey Ryan and anyone else who cares,
*I kept putting off doing something about routing an angle-jack into my RG7 but then finally I called over to a vocational school I used to and asked if they could do wood work in their carpentry shop. The dude was like "oh sure sure i can do whatever you need done bah blah be here at 7 AM" so of course *******
having to get up that early i go over there and it ends up he cant even do it. He says i need some machine to lock the body in place and have a drill go straight in. i understand what hes saying, but (ryan) did you use a hand drill or something? I know you did it yourself...I'd kinda rather do it myself but only if I know I can do it perfect. If I have any doubt then I don't mind paying money to have a pro do it...As long as it doesnt cost to much...If it went over 75-85 bucks then I'd just leave the standard side one in....but i really dont want to because all my monster cables always screw up cuz the cord gets bent alot in my strap and loosens the wire. pain in the ass...

i know that was kinda like one long run on sentence and we're all very strict about not using ?'s and stuff so sorry if its annoying you can just ignore it if you want...of course now i guess its to late isnt it?...

Routing an angle-jack

It really isn't that hard to do. What you need is a drill press. Some models have a vise-like base for holding large objects. If you want some one to do it for you, contact Brian Calvert . He did the Dragon guitar that everyone talked about and he did one for me that turned out nice. I'm sure he wouldn't chatge you more than $40 to do it. Tell him I sent you.

Routing an angle-jack

100% hand drill...

I used two different cutting bits -- things with a long shaft which branches out into a flat blade at the end. *I dunno what they're really called. *It has a point past the flat blade to get the hole started.

You have to have one the size of the outer diameter of the jack. *The other needs to be the same as the thread diameter.

I totally guestimated the depth, but it turned out fine. *

If you look at the way the jack is on there now, you'll see what I'm talking about. *There's a central hole which is the same diameter as the threads on the jack. *Then, there's an outer recessed hole to mount the head of the jack flush with the body.

Basically, you do the same thing, but at an angle and cut the bigger hole about an inch deeper than the one you have now.

Just don't take the big hole all the way thru, or the jack won't have anything to grip... *I went a little too deep on the outer recessed hole, cuz I had a burr or something which wouldn't let the jack go all the way in - nevertheless, I didn't go "too far" cuz it's pretty hard to mess it up.
