Ruined fretboard
Years ago I
scalloped
the
fretboard
of my old RG, unfortunately I did not do a very good job, and on top of that found out that I hate the scalloped fretboard anyway. I'd like to give new life to that guitar, Is there any way I could replace the fretboard with a new one? I don't want to take the guitar to a luthier because it's not an expensive guitar. Do I have any options?

Re: Ruined fretboard
there's tutorials on the net on how to remove fretboards and if you can manage to find a new one you could probably find a guide how to put one on.
if it was me, i'd take any guitar to a luthier for that kinda problem. unless i was a luthier.

Re: Ruined fretboard
That is a huge project to replace a fingerboard right. You already destroyed it once - why do you think you can perform an even more difficult project?
Go find a used RG neck -not difficult to find -and replace the whole thing. The guitar is worth spending $100 on a replacement neck - but unless your a luthier I seriously doubt you'll be happy trying to replace the board yourself - plus you'll need to do frets...it'll wind up costing you more than just finding a used neck.
Just trying to help.

Re: Ruined fretboard
I'd love to try a scallopped fretboard. I'll buy your 'ruined' one from you if you really don't want it, as long as it's AANJ 24, that is.

Re: Ruined fretboard
Fretboard replacement can be tricky, and if you don't have the right tools, you're apt to spend more money on the tools than a new neck would cost. Paying a luthier to swap the board will also exceed the cost of a new neck. So, unless you are looking to get into guitar work and want some practice, or you want to swap the board for something special and unique, buying a whole new neck is probably the best plan.

I totally agree, go with a replacement and you'll be up and playing quicker(a big plus in my book!)
