Rust on the bridge

What is the best way to get rid of rust on the bridge by the saddles and prevent it? I've tried using 3 in 1 oil but it doesn't help too much. Is this an inevitable thing? What can I do to get rid of the rust instead of buying new bridge parts which will more than likely get rusty again.

Don't try this unless you know what you're doing, but you could try removing the hardware and using steel wool to remove any corrosion. I'm not sure about rust prevention however, apart from trying to keep the hardware clean, and keep any sweat away from it.

Any other suggestions?

I'd do the same thing you'd do to stop the rust on a car, just make sure it's relatively clean.

How 'grimy' is the bridge, apart from the rust, obviously? You might also want to wash your hands before you start playing, to get rid of food, sweat, dirt, etc. so it doesn't spread onto the bridge.

Re: Rust on the bridge

Overall the bridge is pretty clean aside from the rust. I'll try just keeping it dry if i sweat on it excessively. Thanks.

i usually use transparent nail polish to prevent trem rust. Just apply a thin layer to trem sadle, especially sadle for the sixth and fifth string.

Re: Rust on the bridge

Wonder if using some WD-40 would help in the long term... might try this myself!

My cosmo-finished hardware on my Japanese-made "Prestige" RG seems to be very bad for corrosion and marking; the guitar is only 4 years old but the hardware looks like it could be 30. Yet the hardware on my 7 year-old Squier (worth 1/3rd of the RG when new and made in China) has not a mark on it! Absolutely shocking.
