S-540 Problems

Hello my fellow Ibanez users.

I have an S-540 from 1994/1995 if im right...I have a problem, after some years using 0.9 to 0.42, i´ve changed to 0.10 to 0.46.
Nothing new here...but my lo pro edge went beserk, then i did adjust the screws on the back and went well...but i have a serious doubt, what is the perfect height to use this strings on the S model???

I like low action, so what do you guys recomend?
I already have my springs 2 in diagonal, and 1 straigh like in the example (lol) / | \ ...
Should i put a 4rth spring???
Sorry for my english... :-)

Hello! Yes, add another spring, it'll do the job. Good luck.

Re: S-540 Problems

I have a couple of guitars with 10-52s and I have managed to balance the trem using only three springs parallel. Takes a little fiddling around, but you can definitely get there. Key is to make small quarter turn adjustments each time, and retune to pitch to see the result.

Re: S-540 Problems

Since you stepped up a gauge in strings, you'll probably also need to tighten the truss rod. Did you do that?

Pickup height is a personal preference.

Re: S-540 Problems

the closer to the strings the higher your output, but too close will pull on your strings with the pickups magnetic field and deaden sustain...
