s7420 crappy black pearl finish - im thinking about removing

my s7420 has several chips in the finish, and the wood color underneath *looks kinda cool.so what im thinking about doing is to continue chipping the finish away untill its all down to the wood. i was wondering if anyone has done this before? any suggestions will be helpful. thanx
