Saddle Positions (factory?)

On all new Ibanez' and Jems...and even on some older models (Vai's Evo) I've noticed that the G string saddle in the bridge is set back further than the other saddles. Usually the rest of the saddles are screwed into the first hole, and the G string is in the 2nd...

Is this a standard adjustment for intonation?

They're preset by Gotoh there. The only saddle that should be in the back hole [a strangly intonating guitar wiithstanding] is the low E.

Yes, that's exactly it. Typically, your saddles will look something like this:

---[ ]
----[ ]
-----[ ]
----[ ]
-----[ ]
------[ ]

Where the top one is your high e and the bottom is your low E. They sometimes vary from that depending on the gauge of strings you're using, but that's usually the approximate configuration

i noticed it even in other Satch's guitars... maybe Rich knows about?

Blackdog has the typical patern, but it's still a strange setup, low low E not near as far back as you'd think it needs to be.

seems like he, or Brawer, sets low-E's intonation not at 12th, maybe at... 6th?!? or maybe he uses a different gauge for the low-E?
hm...

Absolutely not, they're professionals and I'm sure it's dialed in perfect.

Good call, although I don't know what that does to the saddle positions, I believe that guitar [and most of his] are Feitonized.

of course i wasnt mean they set the guitar wrongly, hey...
i was just thinking that this could be a tip for a better intonation on the first frets on the low-E, dont know, i was just thinking...

then...
are you sure Black Dog was Feitenized since the pic was taken? didnt the Feiten thing come out more recently?
