Re: Saddle singers - ... any comments?

Hello Bopupanddown,
I think the problems you've experienced could be due to the saddlesingers being fitted badly or possibly they don't fit that floyd derivative. See examples on
http://freespace.virgin.net/david.beeson/index.htm
homepage.
A set of saddlesingers, if properly fitted (is'nt hard if you follow instructions on back of pack), will last for years.
I suppose tone is subjective.
Saddlesinger users, I've heard from, all say the tone of the guitar is edgier, richer, louder and that the whole guitar resonates better and seems more responsive.
I tried some graphtech saddles on a Strat and found due to the shallow string take-off points and the poor conductive characterists of the low density graphite material they're made from, that the tone suffered enormously. After a weeks roadtest I put the old saddles back on so can't judge them on string saving.

Re: Saddle singers - ... any comments?

Well, I just gota couple of sets of saddle singers to have a go with my TRS guitar. I had some trouble installing them at first, I followed the instructions but when I tuned up the string the saddle singer would distort and sometimes jut out to the side.

When I did manage to get some fresh ones installed into two of the saddles and tuned up I found them to change the upper end of the tone quite a bit, they seemed to mute out some of the top end of the tone leaving a much warmer rounder tone. However this may be to do with the fact that the tip of each saddle singer I just can't get to rest flat against the bridge saddle, the tip of each being just not quite low enough to allow the string to vibrate freely, thus muting the strings top end and reducing the sustain quite a bit.

I haven't tried this with of my other FR type bridge yet, so I'll let you know what happens with that.

If I am installing the saddle singer units wrong I would like to know any tips other than what is already up about installing them. I did try pushing the tip down and tightening up the strings and pulling up on the trem bar to flatten out the saddle singers, but nothing I tried has worked.

Exclamation

I was ripped off by Charlie Chandler's Guitar Experience

I recently paid for two sets of "Saddle Singers" at Charlie Chandler's Guitar Experience and NEVER received them or received ANY answer to my many emails and inquiries through PayPal. So...
Also I recently went to their accessories page and they no longer have "Saddle Singers" even listed - I guess they no longer carry them??
I wanted to try them to see if they would indeed prevent string breakage on my badly worn D string saddle on my Kahler Floyd Rose licensed tremolo. I was also interested in any tone improvements they could possibly offer.
But instead I am out about $50 - I could have easily purchased a replacement bridge saddle and/or had my own brass "saddle singer" custom made for that much!!

Isn't there a company that will sell you replacement saddles that are coated with a different material? I can't remember their name for the life of me. Their ads are in the guitar mags all over. I'll look it up and post it later

Off the top of my head, aren't they called string savers?

Re: Saddle singers - ... any comments?

I have been using Saddle Singers for a number of years now on my Floyd Rose II system and have never had any problems. I recently cleaned out my Floyd Rose trem to see if there were any signs of wear and tear but nothing to report! They also help tuning stability which is essential for me.

I recommend checking them out, just to see what they are like!
