Well deffinetly it's not expensive if you do it by yourself. It affects to sound. It doesn't damage your sound and it's worth it if you like it. I did it and there's no turning back now. I like it and it was worth for me. I think one of the best mods you can do to your guitar.

I can't speak for how Shredfreak did it, but there's a tutorial on Project guitar about it.

Find it here - http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/scal1.htm

Re: Scalloped Fretboard

I did just frets 21 through 24 on my RG 550. I used a steel file. It took me maybe an hour and a half to do the four frets. It turned out really well, except it was hard on my arm and took sometime, and that was only 4 frets. Anyway, it would work well if you had some time to work.

Re: Scalloped Fretboard

I am planning to scallop the 2nd octave on all of my guitars, it's a great mod once you get used to it.

There's another link on that site that shows a short tutorial about how to scallop the top 4 frets. I may just do that on my junk guitar

Cheers,
C.

Re: Scalloped Fretboard

I wld approach wif caution if I were you.

Re: Scalloped Fretboard

What I did was pretty much the same as on the project guitar site except I used steel file to file down the wood between the frets. That tutorial was little different what I did because http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/scal1.htm this was about Blackmore style scalloping and I did the regular scalloping(same as Yngwie uses). Althought I think there isn't big difference on high frets between those two styles.
