scalloped neck?

hey all, what is the point of scalloping your fret board, does it help tone wise?

I dunno about tone, but it sure plays different, that's for sure. Although some do say that you get some more sustain out of it since your finger isn't muting anything on the fretboard, but I can't tell the difference.

Can this be done to a sharktooth inlayed guitar neck, or would that look like crap? I have an extra stripped guitar I can experiment with, so I am willing to try things to see how they finish.
