Schaller FRT question

I have an Ibanez RG550 (10th anniversary? the black one with the chrome/mirror faceguard and headstock) Its got an ibanez Lo-Pro Edge and i was wonder
ping about routing. The only diagram i could find was

http://www.ibanezrules.com/images/parts/edge_manual.pdf
http://schaller-guitarparts.de/uploa...oseTremolo.pdf

main differences are that the Schaller FRT-II is larger by a few mm in a few places. The Posts are exactly the same distance a part and the same size. Has anyone else tried replaing a Lo-Pro with the Schaller FRT and had success without sanding/rerouting? This is the last thing on this guitar for me to replace and its has seen alot of wear. I want to try something new before replacing it with the exact same thing. I did a little bit of searching but didn't want to sift through all of it.

::EDIT::
Basically if i'm retrofitting all i need to make sure is that the bridge physically fits in the prerouted cavity and that i don't have to drill any new holes.

Re: Schaller FRT question

I doubt for that trem you would need to route anything. The lo pro has a pretty large routing.
May i ask why you are changing it though? The lo pro is my favourite trem =/

Really? With your user name I'd never have guessed.

I can't speak for a LoPro/Schaller FR swap, but I DID just replace a worn-out LoPro7 with an OFR7.

It went off without a hitch, I'd say it's a 99% direct retrofit. I didn't swap the trem studs, but just left the Edge studs in there (though I might change that the next time I restring, if the threading is the same), but aside from possible thread size issues if the Schaller studs are important to you, the only other issue I had was the OFR JUST barely touched the treble side of the trem route on pullback. A few seconds with a flat file to basically just sand off the paint at the very edge of the cavity, and I had perfect pullback.

There are certainly things I prefer about the LoPro, but overall I've been VERY happy with the OFR and think if I ever went for a custom, this and not an Edge would be the trem I'd want.

Re: Schaller FRT question

Schaller fluttering > Lo-Pro fluttering.

and its a lighter, but stiffer bridge imo. Played one on my friend's caparison and the lo-pro just does not compare.

I've never been big on flutter, but the OFR certainly feels more stable than the LoPro did... Then again, that lopro was TRASHED.

Re: Schaller FRT question

I've got all three (Lo-Pro Edge in an S1220WNF, Schaller in a Jackson Dinky XL, and OFR in a Jackson Soloist SL1) and I like them all! The one I have the least experience with though is the Original Floyd. I've owned it for about a year and a half. To be honest, I think I like the Lo Pro Edge and Schaller more than the OFR. I can't really describe it, but I don't like the feel of the OFR as much. That's not to say it's BAD, just not as good. It's all completely subjective though...

Re: Schaller FRT question

Is it possible to replace a lo-pro/edge with an OFR/OFRPro without rerouting the mounting holes?

Mine needs replacing and I guess the FRs are easier to source brand new than lo-pro/edge/edgepro.

Re: Schaller FRT question

If I remember correctly, you can install an OFR or Schaller FRT into an Edge/Lo Pro Edge route. If you need to get a new Edge/Lo Pro/Edge Pro, check with Rich at www.ibanezrules.com. I bought a Lo Pro Edge from him a few years ago for my S1220WNF. Keep in mind though, that the post dimensions for the Edge Pro are different than the original Edge/Lo Pro Edge.

Re: Schaller FRT question

for the record the Schaller FRT-II is exactly the same as the Original Floyd made by Schaller as far as mechanics go.
