Scored!!! - Flame Top Mahog Soloist.

Over the moon about this one.

Went to Craft Supplies this weekend to grab some more Zebrano.
Unfortunately they had none cut as they had a 3 day show on and didn't have the time.

I looked around the stores and found pretty much all the usual stuff (ash, alder etc...) that I didn't want (they did have some purpleheart blanks, but oh my god they weigh twice as much as the mahogany ones)

So I thought I'd check out their sale items and lo and behold I found a Mahogany body (soloist shape) with a rosewood top and on top of the rosewood was a 3/8" 4A flamed maple top.
How much???
Only the amazing bargain price of £40!!!
But why?
A few scratches in the mahogany on the back (which can be sanded out no troubole at all), the top is in A1 shape.

Check it out...

Just need to rout the electrics cavity at the back and the jack.
It's gonna be a hardtail so no need to rout a trem.

Also picked up a nice Indian Rosewood fretboard, which looks superb and very purple for some reason

It's been a good weekend!

Cheers
Steve

drool drool drool, man does that body look nice! Translucent finish time me thinks. 40£ is a steal as well! Good weekend? I'd say so! It's just makes you salivate looking at the pictures!

How many projects have you got on the go now?

Thanks chaps!

now..... translucent purple, green or Caribbean Aqua blue styleee

Jobs on the go at the mo are the Mahog RG I built (STILL awaiting hardware), another neck (JS styled), a couple of fretboards and now this (which come to think of it may get the JS neck)
Lots of other little bits going also.

Cheers

Translucent purple sunburst! Although the other colours will look damn good too! (but purple is and remains a favorite for translucent finishes...)

Wow. What a sweet body. And what a STEAL!

My recommendation would be Tiger Eye or Tiger Eye Burst, like on these two Tom Anderson guitars.

Well that doesn't suck. I guess it was a good weekend.

I suggest painting it black. OK maybe not. I like the aqua blue idea. It is less common than purple. Please keep up posted on this project.
