screw pickups direct to RG body? - anyone tried this?

evening all ,
has anyone tried screwing their pickups directly into the body of a pickguard model RG550 ?
i thought i might try this , and could do with some pointers - the main problem as *i see it will be the *extra deep holes at both sides of the front and back pickup spaces in the cavity .
