Setting an Edge Pro
Hey guys, tonight it got me to setup my axe, you know, action, intonation and the chapstick hint... anyways i was wondering if the trem should be kept in angle but not towards or backwards, i mean from the trebel strings to the bass strings, from factory it came that way:
bass strings down to the trebel strings.
how should i do it?

Re: Setting an Edge Pro
i think i understand, you mean the angle it lays from bass to treble? if so that isnt cruitial (hope im right) its the hight of the strings and thats a personal thing , as long as all sounds ok thats all thats important there.
again i think im righ here but im sure i will be the next to know if im wrong

Re: Setting an Edge Pro
Rich's site (Ibanez Rules) has GREAT tech info on guitar setup.

Re: Setting an Edge Pro
That angle is only crucial to the point of the strings not buzzing and it is very commen for the treble side to be lower than the bass cause they oscilate in a smaller radius (hope that makes sense)

angle is part of how much pull up or dive you want as well, if you don't start with a neutral position you are limiting the amount of one or the other, but that is preference mainly.

The angle he is talking about is for action and on an Ibanez (at least all of my edge equipped Ibanez's) that angle can be set to both extremes (meaning highest action to achieve no buzz and lowest action to get great playability) and you can still have max pull up and dive to the point of the
trem block
hitting the front and back of the route. We were talking about the angle from side to side not front to back.

Re: Setting an Edge Pro
I wouldn't worry if I were you, it just takes some time and patience. Is this your first time setting up a floating trem? If it is it's best to learn now so you don't throw money away paying for setups. Like HSH said go threw rich's tech area and you'll get to know all your guitar's better. Setting action so you get it exactly how you like is easily one of the hardest thing to get right when you first start setting up your own guitar's, but after a while you get better and better. The way I use to setup my guitar's compared to how I set them up now is very different, I gradually was able to get my action lower and lower until now it's perfect. If your really nervous about messing it up, just make a lot of fine measurements (preferably with a feeler gauge).

You can print this out or save it to your computer and enter in your own measurements. Good Luck.

Re: Setting an Edge Pro
well this isn´t my first time setting up a guitar... this is my fifth guitar and the third with
floyd rose
o similar, but the other two i just dont mind as much as this one... the cost isnt similar at all by far... so that´s worries me.
i think i have a great setup of the other two but i think they work for me, al though i think also that the neck on my other ibanez isnt as good as this one so... this axe should be easy to set.
where can i find the Rich´s tech area?
