Settting up Truss Rod and getting good action

Hello,

I'm having some trouble setting up my truss rod. When I tight it, the strings tend to buzz, so I have to raise the bridge, getting high action. When I loose the truss rod, the middle of the neck gets a bow and the action in the middle of the neck is also high. Well what I want is some guidelines to achieve a equilibrium between the truss rod, bridge, and action.

Thanks.

Getting good action? I'd recommend reading "The game" by Neil Strauss...

But seriously, it's a matter of trial and error. Also, if you've got a light gauge, try going a bit thicker as you get more tension, thereby decreasing buzz. You've gotta leave a little bit of slack in the neck prevent buzzing on the first frets, but otherwise it's just a balancing act.

It's all a compromise. Just keep messing with the truss and bridge height until you find the best medium. It can take a while but you'll get it. Go very slow and just adjust the truss a little bit at a time (1/4 turn max)

You could also check the tech section here on Jemsite, or at www.Ibanezrules.com

Good luck

Re: Settting up Truss Rod and getting good action

Good thread...just what I have been looking for. Anyways, being a noob myself regarding the truss rod, I have a question about it (please don't laugh too hard). If the guitar is standing upright, which way do you turn the truss rod when you want to loosen it? Clockwise or counter-clockwise?

Thanks

if you are looking down the barrel so to speak, done from the top of the headstock with the fretboard facing up counter-clockwise loosens it and clockwise will tighten it.

I hope I'm right there!
