So here's the situation with my UV777PBK:
- it came straight from the box to me, so it never had a setup done anywhere other than the factory, which judging from the ridiculous action and poor intonation isn't worth much.
I started by dropping the
trem height, but what I found was that the action just wasn't right. So after some reading and checking measurements, I pulled the shims out from under the nut. I wasn't quite sure if I could get away with no shim, and it's a bit close as far as open string buzzing, but I can live with it until I find some new, smaller shims. In any event, this transformed the guitar, and the action is now about identical to my JEM.
The oddity I have is that the trem height seems very low to me, despite the action at the 24th fret being right at ~1.5mm. The thing is almost buried in the trem cavity. I really don't have anything to compare against, but the angle is correct (slightly canted forward). If I put the pup selector in the middle position, the
trem arm just clears it without touching.
Does anyone have any pics of their UV777 trem height/angle I could take a peek at?
