setup question (frets sound dead)

I'm curious as to why my guitar does this. But I've noticed that above the frets 12+ all the strings seem to sound dead on the extremely high frets. The notes get more of a deadening sound the higher i go in frets. I was suggested more neck relief, but i've already adjusted the neck quite a bit. What would you suggest?

It's either/or a combination of too low action and/or too much neck relief. Straighten the neck a little and raise the action to compensate.

how much neck relief should i take back? My action is pretty high right now because i've been fiddling with it. It started when I started giving this thing neck relief. Is there some sort of measurement I wanna do on an open fret to know exactly where it should be?

You'll have to find the happy medium you can live with. Neck relief cleans up fretbuzz through the first half of the neck, but if the action is too low for that amount of relief it'll start choking in the second half of the neck.

Correct me if i'm wrong but note sustain decreases as you progress up the fingerboard. THis is quite true esp for frets 15 and above

well I understand it all well. It just seems that on the Low E string when I play the 24th fret, it's just a dead noise, not even a note. Maybe i'm just too used to my les paul :\

The low E fretted at the 24th shouldn't sound dead.

I like very low action on my guitars, and on all 3 floyd equipped guitars (samick warlock, RG570, Jem 2kDNA) the low E fretted at the 24th does not sound dead.

wil..
