Seymour Duncan Equivalent

I am wondering what is the equivalent pickup to the Seymour Duncan 59

I can get a deal on Di Marzio pickups and have decided to get a D Sonic and cant decide on a neck pick up

And I want something as close to the Seymour Duncan 59

Any suggestions?

Cheers

Re: Seymour Duncan Equivalent

If you really like the Duncan 59 there should be no replacement for it, because you won't find anything like it. In the quest for tone, you should be more concerned about how you can get the money to buy a Duncan 59 rather than a replacement.

There is no DiMarzio direct replacement. If you want to try a sweet neck pickup, I suggest the PAF Pro or the Air Norton. Air Norton (modified)/D Sonic is what Pettrucci uses.

It'd also help if you could tell us what kind of tone you're looking for, body and neck/fingerboard woods, etc.

Re: Seymour Duncan Equivalent

The '59 is based on the Alnico 5 version of the classic PAF, so the closet DiMarzio would be the new 36th Anniversary PAF (DP103).

I am not saying it is the same thing, but that is the closet on paper.

Re: Seymour Duncan Equivalent

I am just looking for something close to it

Its just that I can get a good deal on dimarzio pickups and want to take up the offer

seeing as it is an anniversary model, is it a limited edition run?

Seeing as the DP103 replaced a couple of different pickups, I would not think so.

I suggest the PAF Pro in the neck, it's my favorite neck humbucking pickup (I'd say favorite neck pickup altogether, but Fender just HAD to go and create the Hot Noiseless set...)

Re: Seymour Duncan Equivalent

I love the PAF Pro in the neck, but there are other pickups I like better in the bridge.
