seymour duncans

ok, well I am replacing the covered pickups in my les paul and want some hotter pickups. I would like to try duncans. I have 2 dimarzio equipped guitars and one duncan. I have a jb-4 in my jackson v, I like it but for my paul I would like more distortion. I hear that the duncan distortion, and custom are pretty hot, but idk. I need this pickup to perform clean, and heavy distorted Zakk Wylde metal stuff. No actives please. Any recommendations?

Re: seymour duncans

why do you need a particularly hot pickup? Most amplifier setups have more than enough gain these days, and the hotter a pickup the more low mids it has, so things can get pretty muddy when you combine them with mahogany bodied guitars...

That said, try a duncan full shred set.

Re: seymour duncans

I have a JB and 59 combo in all my Gibsons and they sound great whatever the amp setting.
But they're usually at the blues rock crunch type scenario.......

Re: seymour duncans

For a Les Paul, I would recommend a Pearly Gates set or a pair of Alnico IIs.

If you want something a bit hotter, then either a Custom Custom (A2 mag) or the Custom 5 (A5 mag) in the bridge.

Again, the full shreds would easily satisfy both requirements.
