Used to use Ernie Ball Super Slinky .009-.042, now use DR Hi-Beams .009-.042; that's the only gauge I've ever used, as it feels best to me.

I usually buy a new pack of strings when I go to the music store just to try something new, but no matter what brand, I always buy 9's.

I use ernie ball extra slinky .08's .. Yea I know they break. as a matter of fact i just had a little e break at my finger. I am lucky my finger escaped unscathed.
I find them easier to pick and move around on the neck. Plus I dont wanna change my floating tremelo for .09's

my erniballs are very similar, they are the hybrid custom set slinkys .9 or maybe .10 and near .42 not sure off top of my head, but i use them on just about every guitar i replace the strings on.
i think its .10-.46 but its extreemmly versitile... excellent set of strings

I use rotosound roto yellows which are .010 to .046 and they come with an extra 1st string. They were the first ones i bought and haven't changed, and i've never busted a set.

Re: So whats your fave string gauge/make?

I use DR Hi Beams, 9-42. This is a "compromise" gauge for me because I like the B and thick E strings to be a gauge higher. In a regular set, those strings are sloppy and slightly lacking in tone because they are too thin / there isn't enough tension on them. Problem is putting together custom sets restricts you to the brands that sell actually single strings and also it's expensive. My ideal gauge: 9-12-16-24-32-44. Unfortunately, no-one except Zachary Guitars sell this set and shipping them over here is more expensive than settling for the "compromise" gauge.

DR strings are great. I much prefer them to D'Addario (which I used for 20 years until recently).

Great, its strange how many people use 9 42, i think the hybird set is best for floyd guitars as its a heavy bottom and still light top, Tom.

Do the high beams have more tension then the tite fits? i just need a little more tension than the tite fits. then i will never have fret buzz. i use 9-42 tite fits. i tried high beam 10-46s but were tooo tight for me. but changed every string cept the low e and the guitar play so good.

Do they make sets with just the low E a 46?? because whenever i use a hybrid type strings, my tuning stability goes down the toilet.

Re: So whats your fave string gauge/make?

Ernie Ball 10-46 on my Ibanez's and Strat but thinking of goin up to 11's or even 12's on my strat...

to hijack the thread slightly does anyone here play with 8's? I thought about tryin out one of the RG's with 8's but I'm a bit reluctant to have to p*ss about setting the trem up again.. (or that should be taking it to Max and getting it set up for 8's)
