Sound of the fretwire

Two of my guitars, namely RG1570 and JS1600 have Jumbo and 6105 fretwire accordingly. With the equal set of pickups i definately hear more metal in sound with RG and more of wood in JS.

I believe that this is because of the fretwire size, i've read about that.

How can i dial this metal in sound out? Is it possible with EQ or something else?

I would bet that anyone listening to you play will not hear what you describe. If it bothers you to the point that you find the tone uninspiring,which I find hard to believe (but they're your ears), all I can say is just play the guitar that you perceive has the best tone. Where did you read about fret size and tone? I thought I heard it all on guitar tone but I don't remember anything about fret size and tone. Seems to me it would be so minute as to be no consideration.

Maybe think about the strings you are using ?

I find the brand of stings makes quite a noticible difference.

I use ernie ball 9-42
I agree that maybe no one else will hear that it's not actually uninspiring me just interesting to me if i can dial it out with EQ.
After some sound checks i feel that it's just distinct to guitar

The pickups could be what your hearing more than anything.

Must be the pickups, the ones in the RG have more of a metal sound in them compared to the JS. Same strings on both guitars? As strings would also make a different in the sound.

I don't think it's what is being discussed here but I've read on TGP that stainless steel frets certainly sound different (brighter than normal, if I remember correctly). As such I'm not averse to believing fret size could also play a difference. Particularly if the OP is related to Eric Johnson

I've read about that a few years ago. I was also wondering about Stainless Steel frets. And a few people then said that with thin fret-wire you get more wood passed soundwise. Maybe it's just my ears, but i definitely hear some metal and wood in different guitars. May be it's just placebo after i've read about that But SS frets sound brighter, you're right
