Spring installation

I think i have to install two more springs on my bsb but i don't know how to do it. There are spaces for the springs on the side near the claws but for the other side i will have to make the springs hold onto the screws. Will this harm the screws and is this the right way to install 5 springs on a jem? Even i have setted the tremolo angle as neutral as possible the tremolo is still angled forward very much. Also what kind of springs do i need to use, should they be the same springs that were installed originally? I don't think i can find the originals here.

Did you change string guage?? If not, you probably tuned the strings too fast or tweaked the springs too much, all it needs is some time and more tweaking. Otherwise, to add 2 more springs, remove the spring lock and use the 2 screw holes for the springs. If you're a fanatic, you can drill 2 extra holes beside the spring lock holes and continue to use the lock.

Okant... first off, unscrew the 2 screws on the trem block, remove the clamp and you will see that there are 5 holes for springs to hook onto (3 used by the original springs). I hate to say this but DUH!!! didn't you notice that the 3 original springs went below the clamp, under the part that screwed on? *:sarcasm:

BTW why do you think you need 5 springs? What string gauge are you using? 5 springs will really make the trem feel really still and if you use light gauge strings, your trem angle will most likely be wrong.

I have read this on some search:

"Remember - you can screw the spring retainer screws ALL THE WAY IN, down to the screw heads. *You don't have to stop at the end of threads."

If this is true there is no problem for me i have just started using 009's after using 008's. What do you say about going all the way in? I think a mistake here will make the guitar collapse.

With 9's the claw should remain at least 3/8" away from the body. I'd bet money you tuned the strings too fast and that's why the trem angle is so steep. Either way, you axe isn't going to collapse from screwing the claw in further.

Did you adjust the springs at all since changing guages? Just crank them in if not and retune.

I have adjusted the claws but i was afraid of going into the body so much, isn't there the risk of ruining the screw path inside the wood, making the body useless?
