Storing guitars in Arizona climate?

I read the archived thread on cleaning fretboards with oils, and there was some relevant info there. I just moved to the Phoenix area, and it's so dry here. It gets very hot too (100F +); yet doesn't feel as oppressively hot as a Chicago summer with high humidity. I think the winters won't be harsh, but it can get chilly. Humidity can soar to 20%.

Any recommendations on how best to care for my guitars in this climate? They stay in the house in cases at the moment, but I would like to be able to put a couple on stands. The AC is brand new and has high-end filters for keeping spores, sand, and other contaminants out. Not sure if there's a humidifier built-in or not. I keep the blinds closed cause it's too damn sunny here. I have rosewood and maple necks, and have been using lemon oil to clean them monthly. Should I step it up? Thanks all.

Make sure you have a humidifier. When I moved into my new house we didnt have one and after one winter with the heat on I had about 8 gutiars with warped necks and fret ends popping out. It wasn't good.

Another word of advice, use bore oil rather than lemon oil, which only dries your board out more.

Re: Storing guitars in Arizona climate?

I have been living in Phoenix for over 5 years now. I haven't had any problems with my guitars. After using lemon oil for 20 years, I now use Fret Dr. bore oil with every string change. Of course, I play my strings till they are dead, so I can go 3 months without a string change LOL. You can get Fret Dr here: http://www.beafifer.com/boredoctor.htm
It is really great stuff.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've never used bore oil before. I go pretty light on lemon oil to begin with, especially on the rosewoods.
