String buzzes - RG7620 - adjusting truss rod does not help!
I've got an RG7620 and I've adjusted the
truss rod
almost completely loose, but I'm still getting string buzzes. It's only on frets 1-10. There's plenty of relief in the neck. Thats what is confusing me. My
string gauges
are .56-.09. It's mainly on the low B, E, and A strings. Any help would be appreciated!!!

ACK! first of all, tighten that rod back up a bit. *Your fretboard should be nearly dead flat with
string tension
on. *If your lower 3 strings are buzzing, try raising just the one post of the trem up first. *that will raise that side of the trem. *If that doesnt' work, you could cut shims out of thin brass sheet or aluminum sheet to put under the saddles for those strings, though you shouldn't need to do that. *More likely, if you are only getting a buzz up to the 10th fret, your 10th fret is actually high, and the strings are buzzing on that fret, first try raising the action, the action on the bass strings side is normally around 1.5mm to 2mm at the 12th fret, 1.5 is about where all mine are to avoid buzzing and that is beautifully low at that height. *if that doesnt work, lay a straight edge down the neck and check your frets and see if the 10th isn't a little high, it may need to be dressed down a little bit. *
Hope that helps.
Jeremy,
oh, and welcome to the forum!

String buzzes - RG7620
Jeremy, I've adjusted everything back - truss rod to where there is a slight amount of relief in the neck, and adjusted the trem to around 1.5 mm at 12th fret. The low B string now buzzes at every fret except the 24th! Any more suggestions?
Thanks!

ok, did the buzz on the E and A go away though? if so, then try raising the bridge just a little bit more. *Is the low B worse than it was before? if it is, I would now check the frets for level, make sure there isn't a high one, even 2mm at the 12th fret is totally acceptable on the bass side of a 7 string guitar. *failing that, if you don't want to raise the overall action of that side, then *you may have to shim that single saddle on the bridge up a bit. *Also, sight down the neck and make sure it doesn't have a slight twist in it, if it does, that is something you'll have to take to a skilled tech to get sorted. *But I would imagine it's just a high fret, or overly low action on the bass side. *How is the rest of the neck for buzz?
Jeremy
oh, and be sure that slight bit of neck bend is forwards, you sure don't want it bending backwards LOL

Go to the guitars section of this site and take a look at the set up tutorial. *Print it out and them commit it to memory. *This is the best set up explanation I have ever seen, complete with pictures and everything. *At any rate, go through that from start to finish. *It will tell you what to do if you experience buzzing. *Where you are buzzing determines what you need to do to fix it, not all buzzes are treated equal. *
You stated that your buzzing was coming from frets 1-10 and that raising the action didn't help. *That alone tells me that you may need to shim the nut, not raise the bridge more. *If all of this makes you uncomfortable, take it to a GOOD tech that is familiar with
Ibanez guitars
and have him walk you through what he does. *It will cost you, but you will get a good understanding of how it all comes together. *Also keep in mind that super low action is going to buzz, how much is determined by the quality of your set up.

Well, I think I've got most of the kinks out. I need to shim the nut a hair on the low side and I should be good to go. Thanks for the help guys!

For what it's worth, shimming the nut won't achieve anything unless you have a string buzz off the 1st fret when the string is open, once you fret the actual note, it makes no difference what height your nut is at. *if the action from the bridge is low, and no buzz on open strings, the nut is the right height, if when you fret a string, it buzzes, it has nothing to do with the
nut height
. *Hope that saves a little grief.
