String Gauge

I seem to get hold of alot of guitars that are set up with 10's.

I usually use 9's.

What do guys go for and why?

Re: String Gauge

9's on anything edge equipped and 10's on all the hard tails. Another 50-50

9's. Also got 9's on my Les Paul, but they just don't feel right on that though.

Re: String Gauge

I use a little bit of everything...

For standard tunings, 9s or 10s, it doesn't really matter.

Drop tunings, 11s or 12s.

Re: String Gauge

I started out with 9s. Went thru a phase of about 5 years when I used 10s. Now I'm back to 9s again.

Re: String Gauge

10-52s suckas!

9s are just too flimsy now. The GHS Boomers are great in this set as it leaves the treble strings not too thick, and the bass strings are nice and fat for full sounding chording. This is on trem equipped guitars too.

Re: String Gauge

9's for me - work the best on my trem guitars. I suppose if i had a LP or another stoptail, i would use 10's, but 11's are just a little much for me

Re: String Gauge

I used 11s (at standard tuning) for a while but have switched back to 10s for now. Thicker strings just sound better to me.
