String gauges: 009 or 010?

I've always used 042-009. I was thinking about a hybrid gauge (046-009) or even 046-010. So I would like to know pros and cons of both-in playability, sound and sustain. I wish to know if it is worth to have a bigger string with a bigger sound sacrifying some playability.

I have .10s on all my guitars (i.e. VWH, UV777PBK, RGT3120 etc..) and I luv the way they sound and play. To me .10s sound a bit "beefier/warmer" than .09s and seem to have more sustain. Again that might be in my mind's ear. It does take your fingers a while to get use to the thicker gauge, but u will eventually get accustomed to them.

i've got 9-42s on all my guitars, cause my hands are pretty small, and 10-46s are too stiff to bend.
i also find that 9-42s get more dynamics than 10-46s.
just my opinion.

I went through the same thing. The hybrid sent was suppose to help me transition between the 9's to the 10's. I never made it to the 10's, I'm still on the hybrids.

I've experimenting with different gauge strings and I happen to like 10's and have no problem getting used to them. I have used stock sets of 10's but find myself getting individual strings creating my own sets ;-)

Sounds exactly like my situation. I used GHS Boomers 9-42 for 15 years, and decided to move up to 10s this year. I haven't had any difficulty playing on 10s, and i think my tone is better.

Exactly, I had to move on from what my "heroes" play and discover myself........pretty heavy, huh? ;-)

I do prefer the tone of the heavier gauge. 9's seemed a little too "brassy" for me (after all these years )

D'addario makes 9.5 guage. i was thinking about using those but i'm not sure. i wil probably get a set when i go to GC a try them out(if they have them) but then i have to set my guitar up again and all that

I play hybrid 10's (10-52) and really like them if I ever have an impulse to downtune (doesn't happen very often but hey) its nice and I like the feel better plus I think it has a little bit better sustain and possibly tone. They're everly's I believe rockers, not B-52's

I've experimented with 9 - 42, 9 - 46, and 10 - 46. I prefer 9 - 42 on my Strat and Ibanez guitars and 10 - 46 on Les Pauls and PRS. It's a tension thing.
