String tension on Edge - It shouldn't change when bent? Impo

I've read that a properly set up Edge shouldn't let the strings change pitch when one string is bent or broken.
Theoretically, isn't this impossible? The reason the bridge floats is because the strings share tension as a counter balance against the springs which holds the bridge up (floats).

Is this true?
Also, are there any pics out there where I can clearly see a knife edge?

String tension on Edge

No, it isn't true. *You CAN set up an edge stiff enough, or with a block or tremsetter mechanism so that the other strings won't go flat. *But IMO, none of those would be a normal "properly set up edge" which, in my opinion, is a floating set up.

String tension on Edge

All strings contribute to the tension which the springs have to counteract. So it isn't true. Only with a blockingdevice of some sort, like Jesse Greenawalt said.
