String under lockbox or just on the side?

When restringing the treble strings on edge ( low trs 2 in my case) is there any problem or grip gain if the strings are under the lockbox as well as pushed against the side? like so ..http://img174.imageshack.us/my.php?image=lockboxvx6.jpg

i wouldn't recommend that as it may screw with your fine tuning ability. you need that space underneath for adjustment.

John's right. I managed to get a string trapped under the block one time and could barely get it out again, plus it did indeed mess with the tuning.

thats just a no no no no no. Youll have problems with your trs if you continue to do so, as it will eventually stop gripping the string properly and the saddles will have to be replaced.

I've only done it to the high e string, does it matter?, should i leave it as it is until next string change or take it out and redo it so that it doesnt go underneath?

Take it out NOW. If you want pickup some extra 9 gauge high e strings from your guitar shop too, they are good to have around if you break one. Thankfully they fixed this forever on the newer trems, as you cant really do that anymore since the lock block is completely different.

Is it really going to do any damage so quickly? I have no spare strings and the current strings are Elixirs, there isnt enough slack left in the string to just clip the end and release some string from the tuning peg. (btw high e i mean the skinniest string)

You may or may not be able to get away with it. But as a tech ive seen dozens of ruined trs saddles because of this. Leave it on till you change strings. Id rather die than use elixirs on my electrics too! Acoustics only for me :P

Re: String under lockbox or just on the side?

another reason why this is a bad idea is because the blocks have a little dimple where the lock screw pushes into, to help prevent to block from poping out or moving, and to assure a proper lock.. So if the block isn't seated right, that means the screw isnt resting inside the dimple, which is going to cause tuning issues, or damage to the block or screw over time.
