Stringing question.

This is probually a very stupid question. But ive seen around people who have the strings with the end with ball up in the tuner.. I was wondering how you would go about doing this and what are the advantages /disadvantages of this. I have a 03 7vwh.. Was wondering how ide manage doing this.

It isn't difficult, just put the string through the tuner first, then insert it into the bridge. The advantage from what I have gathered (I don't do it) is that if you cut it so there isn't much slack, it will only take a few turns of the machine to get to pitch. Like a locking tuner. For me, I like to put nearly the whole string on the peg so if one pops out of the bridge I just unlock the nut & unwind some string. Fewer string changes.

Fewer string changes, and you can't poke yourself if you touch the headstock...it's a really great method of stringing!

What does it matter if there's a locking nut?

Because you don't stretch strings with the nut locked
